Why Your Creative Story is Still Unfolding

Several years ago, I fell in love with what I used to call "junk journaling." In reality, it was my way of creative journaling — a safe space where I could be completely expressive and free.

I would take photos, print them out (yes, on actual paper!), and fill my pages with stickers, inserts, scraps — pretty much anything that helped me tell the story of my life at that moment. It was messy, joyful, and personal. It felt like a collage of my soul, one page at a time.

But then… the world shifted. When the pandemic hit, sometime around late 2020, I stopped. And honestly? I never really picked it back up.

Fast forward to today: I’m feeling a strong, undeniable calling to return to this form of creative journaling — not just for myself, but to invite others to join me on the journey. It feels like a full-circle moment, a chance to reconnect with a piece of myself I forgot I missed.

If you’ve followed my art online, you know I love playful, childlike illustrations. They’re fun for me. They bring me joy and feel easy and light, like a warm or sunny afternoon. But lately, I’ve been craving something deeper.

I’ve been asking myself tough questions: Should I keep trying to do both the playful, happy art and the more raw, expressive creative journaling?

If I’m honest (and that’s kind of my thing), my heart keeps pulling me toward the journaling. But both are a part of who I am. But, I will be showing up more with the side that isn’t always "cute" or easy to share online. The side that’s about going inward, discovering, processing, and becoming more me, every single day.

And maybe that’s exactly what "becoming" is about. It’s not about arriving somewhere perfect and polished. It’s about allowing ourselves to keep unfolding. To keep telling our story, even when the pages feel unfinished or the paint is still wet.
